Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus)
Coney Island Creek, Brooklyn, NY, Winter, 2014
I was walking up the beach one morning with Tom Preston and he put his hand up and motioned for me to look. This Peregrine was eating a Herring Gull. Peregrine did not want to leave the catch behind. We took many pictures and walked around the scene when enough. I took more pictures as we gave it a wide berth but we made the peregrine nervous and it tried to pull the gull away from us. This was the most determined I have ever seen a peregrine. When it saw we were not going to be a problem it went back to devouring the gull.
